Fresh Broiler Chickens

Starting the week of July 4th, we’re able for the first time ever to offer our own pasture-raised, organic-in-everyway-but-the-paperwork, local, delicious chicken. They’re available for a limited time only, and once they are gone, they’re gone.
The chickens are raised on our verdant, green, and certified organic pasture, and are moved to new foraging areas each day. Cornish Cross, a standard breed of broiling chicken, is built in such a way that the chicken becomes top-heavy as it matures, and is eventually unable to walk or scratch or move. Ours are not that type of chicken. The breed we grow is called Freedom Ranger, not Cornish Cross, and they take about 30% longer to raise. As you can see, they are active, healthy, and curious birds.
Costs
A graphic put out this June by CUESA (the Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture) puts the real cost of raising pastured chicken at about twice that of conventionally-raised birds. Add to that the costs of supplementing the birds’ forage with organic grain, which they eat a lot more of since they are so active throughout their longer lives, and you have a food whose real cost is substantially higher than chicken you might be used to buying. If you are a person who’s concerned about the ethics of the food you eat, though, this is exactly what you want.
1-2 chickens – $6/lb.
3-5 chickens – $5.90/lb.
5-10 chickens – $5.75/lb.
Our Ordering System

You will receive a call in July to coordinate the pick-up of your birds.
