Grass-fed Beef

Our cows eat 100% certified organic feed, primarily in the form of grass from our excellent pastures, which are rich in grasses with high protein and mineral content. When these pastures are covered with snow, our cows eat a diet of ‘haylage,’ a kind of fermented grass food that some people compare to cow-sauerkraut. Like sauerkraut, the process of fermentation in haylage significantly increases the nutrients availablein the grass, which the cows of course pass on to us. Their winter diet also consists of organic hay from our pastures, and is supplemented with a small amount of other organic grains, such as triticale, which is high in protein. The cows are never given antibiotics or treated with rBGH or any other hormones.

Since our cows live in healthy conditions and eat a diet appropriate for ruminants, their own health benefits, as does our own. According to eatwild.com, “Meat from grassfed animals has about half the fat as meat from grain-fed animals and significantly fewer calories.” Meat from grass-fed animals is also dramatically higher in CLA, or conjugated linoleic acid, four times higher in vitamins E, A, D, and omega-3 fatty acids.
